How can I suspend my membership?

We regret that you want to leave gotthenerve.com. Do you want to give us feedback and tell us the reason for your decision? Go to "Account", "membership", check the box of one of the listed reasons, then hit "Suspend Membership". All of your information (profile, photos, username, etc.) will be hidden from all other members of the site. You will not receive any communication from other members while your account is suspended. All members who had you as a contact will lose your contact information.

What happens to my profile if I cancel my membership?

All of your information (profile, photos, username, etc.) will be hidden from all other members of the site. You will not receive any communication from other members while your account is suspended. All members who had you as a contact, will lose your contact information.

Can I reactivate my membership?

Are you ready to throw yourself back into the fray? No problem. Simply log in on the homepage, go to "Account", "Membership", and click on "Activate Membership". All your information (profile, photos, username, etc.) will be restored and visible to other members the same way it was before your suspension.

Forgot password?

If you forgot your password click on "Forgot password?" on the login page. Enter your email address in the form "Forgot password?" and we'll send your password to your account's email address.

Forgot username?

If you forgot your username, contact us and provide us with your date of birth, the email address you used to register, and postal code if US/Canada or country if international. Your username will be sent to the email address you used to register.

"Remember me" feature

By clicking the "Remember me" box on the login page, your login information will be saved as a a cookie on your computer, so that next time you login you will not have to remember your username and password.

IMPORTANT: Think twice before using this feature if you share your computer with others in your household or use a public computer. Using this feature could allow anyone to access your account.

How do I change/update username/password/email-address?

Username: You can't change your username.

Password: Go to "Account", "Password". Type in your old password in the field "Old Password", your new password in "New Password" and confirm your new password by retyping it in the field "Confirm Password". Hit "Save Changes".

Email address: To update your personal email address, click on "Account" and go to "Email Address". Enter your current email address as well as your new email address and submit the form.

Will I get any emails e.g. newsletters, updates, from gotthenerve.com?

gotthenerve.com offers you a bi-weekly newsletter with news, updates and tips and tricks as well as the hit-the-nerve-letter, a weekly update on members that match your search preferences. Those 2 letters will be sent to your personal email account, not to your gotthenerve.com-email account. To subscribe/unsubscribe to the newsletter and/or hit-the-nerve-letter, go to "Account", "Email Preferences", and check/uncheck the box of the letter(s) you would like to receive/cancel subscription. You also should choose your email format: HTML or text only.

How do I create/edit a profile?

To create/edit your profile, click on "Profile" and click on any of the sections on the left side.

TIP: The more information you reveal allows members to get a better picture of you and therefore the more likely you will be contacted.

What is a profile "Skin"?

A profile "Skin" is a design template that you can use to spruce up your profile. A skin may be collection of colors and/or image that "frame" your photos and profile and serve as expressive "wall paper". You can change your skin at any time under "Profile" and the link "All Skins" on the left. If you don't see anything that jumps out, you can also click "Create" to build your own.

What is "Private Profile Access"?

When creating/editing your profile, you can choose between making your profile viewable by all or by invitation only. Therefore go to "Profile", and under "Privacy" will be a "Profile" link where you can set your "Profile is Visible" to either "By Everyone" or "By Invitation Only". If you choose a private profile, your profile will not appear in search results and will be visible to members you select/invite only.

How can I invite members to see my profile when having chosen "Private Profile Access"?

Go to "Profile", and under "Privacy" will be a "Profile" where you can select the member you would like to invite to view your private profile. Therfore type in the member's username. How can I change the visible status of my profile?



Go to "Profile", and under "Privacy" will be a "Profile" where you can change your visible status. Just go to the field "Profile is Visible" and click on the corresponding radio button. Your status will be updated appropriately after you click on the radio button.

How to post/manage photos?

Go to "Profile", then "Photos". You can upload your photo(s) directly from your computer. To upload a photo from your computer go to "Upload a Photo" on the left, browse your computer and click on "Upload Photo" to submit.

Photo guidelines

Do's:
  • Photos must be current recognizable photos of yourself
  • Photos must show your face
  • Photos must be clear and of good quality
  • Uploaded photos must be 4MB in file size or less
Don'ts:
  • Photos containing contact information will result in the profile being removed
  • Copyrighted photos will result in the profile being removed
  • Photos showing an illegal activity or containing drugs or drug paraphernalia, public nudity, sexual acts or violence, or that are otherwise offensive will result in the profile being removed

How many photos can I add?

You can upload up to 10 photos for each photo album. One of the photos must be your primary photo, which means the photo that members will show up in searches.

Photos visible by everyone or by invitation only

Like your profile, you can choose between making your photos visible by everyone or by invitation only. Therefore when uploading a photo mark either the box "By Everyone" or "By Invitation Only" under "Photos visible". You have to check one of the boxes for every single photo you upload. If you choose to make your photo(s) visible by invitation only, your searchable profile will not include any pictures.

How can I invite members to see my photo(s)?

Go to "Profile", then "private photos access". The invitation process consists of 3 steps:
  1. Select the member you would like to invite to view your private profile. Therfore type in the member's username. If you're not sure whether you got the right username, click on select and the short profile of the selected member will show up.
  2. Select the private photos you would like them to be able to view by placing a checkmark next to each photo.
  3. Enter a message to be sent with the invitation and click "Send" when you are finished.

How can I change the photos being-visible status?

Go to "Profile", "Photos", and click on "Edit Photos" below the photo album that contains the photos in question. Use quick search to find a broad spectrum of people who fit your basic requirements, such as sex, type of relationship you're looking for, age and location.

What is Detailed Search?

The detailed search brings you closer to finding exactly what you are looking for. By specifying the following the search results will show only the profiles you're really looking for:
  • Location (e.g. postal code, country, city)
  • General requirements (e.g. sex, age, height)
  • Specific characteristics (e.g. hair/eye color, type of relationship looking for, education, etc.)
NOTE: Selecting no preference will broaden your search results.

Save detailed searches in "My Saved Searches"

Once you've defined a detailed search you can save it to use it again. Therefore just type a name (i.e. "Cool people from Florida") in the box "Save this search as" and click on "search". Your saved searches will be listed in "My Saved Searches" on the "Search Overview" site.

What can I do with my Search Results?

Your search results show short profiles of the members you were looking for. The short profile includes the member's age/sex, location, type/age of members he/she is looking for, his/her motto and the last/next time he/she was/will be online. For more information you can either view the complete profile of each member listed, email or chat with the member or save the profile(s) in your "Saved Contacts".

What can I do with my "Saved Contacts"?

Instead of doing searches you can quickly access your friends and the people who interest you most. Through your saved contacts, you have quick access to:

  • View their profiles by clicking on the member name or the member's photo
  • Send messages since all saved contacts will show in your address book
  • See who's online and Instant Message

Adding profiles to your blocked contacts prevents them from sending you any tempts, email, and instant messages.

How can I save profiles?

Once you've searched for profiles by either Quick Search, Detailed Search or Username Search, you can save profiles by either clicking on "save this profile" on their short profile shown in your search results list or by clicking on "Save" on their complete profile. The profile(s) will automatically be added to your "Saved Contacts".

How can I block profiles?

To block a profile go to the member's complete profile and click on "block". The profile will automatically be added to "Blocked Contacts". The respective member will be prevented from sending you any tempts, email, and instant messages.

To remove saved/blocked profiles from "Saved Contacts" or "Blocked Contacts" go to "Contacts" and click on "Remove" for the respective profile.

Email




How can I avoid being tempted/emailed by a pest?

Just click on "Block" when reading the tempt/email or go to his/her profile and click "Block". The profile will automatically be added to your "Blocked Contacts". The respective member will now be prevented from sending you any tempts, email, and instant messages.

What's my messages "Inbox"?

Your messages "Inbox" lists all emails and tempts you have received from other members.

How can I read my received emails?

Go to "Inbox" and click on the member name or the subject line of the respective email.

How can I delete emails?

Go to "Inbox", check the box of the respective email and click on delete or click on the respective email and hit the "Delete" button. A window will open up and ask you whether you really want to delete this email permanently. Clicking on "ok" will permanently delete the email.

How can I write emails?

Go to "Inbox" and click on "New Message". Either type the member's name in the first box or choose one from your "Saved Contacts".

Write your message in the message box and hit "Send Message".

NOTE: Use of HTML in the message box is not allowed.

How can I reply to an email?

Go to "Inbox" and click on the member name or the subject line of the respective email to open it up. Click on the "Reply" button, write your message in the message box and hit "Send Message".

Will I receive/can I send emails from/to people outside of gotthenerve.com?

No, we provide you with a web-based email account. No one outside gotthenerve.com can send you emails to your gotthenerve.com email account nor can you send them any messages.

What are my message folders?

Go to "Inbox" and you will see "Folders" on the left hand side. Your "Folders" includes your "Inbox" folder, your "Sent" folder, and all additional folders you have created yourself.

What is my "Sent" folder?

Your "Sent" folder lists all emails you've sent.

How many emails can I save in each folder?

There's no limit of how many emails you save in each folder.

How can I create a new folder?

Go to "Inbox" and click on "Modify Folders". On this page, you can create, rename, or delete your custom folders. Type a folder name in the field "New Folder" and hit "Create". Your new folder will be listed at the end of your folder list.

How can I rename a folder?

Go to "Email", "Folders". Go to the form on the bottom of the page. Select the folder you want to rename from the "Rename Folder" list. Type a new folder name in the field "Rename to" and hit "Rename".

NOTE: A folder name can only be 30 characters long. The basic folders Inbox and Sent cannot be renamed.

How can I delete a folder?

Go to "Email", "Folders". Go to the form on the bottom of the page. Select the folder you want to delete from the "Delete Folder" list and hit "Delete".

NOTE: All email must be removed before deleting a folder. The basic folders "Inbox", "Sent", "Draft" and "Trash" cannot be deleted.

How can I move emails to another folder?

Go to "Email" and the respective folder. You can select the email(s) you want to move to a particular folder by checking the box of the respective email(s), choose a folder from the "Move emails to" list and hit "Move". You can also click on the respective email and select a folder from the "Move emails to" list.

Can I restore an email once I have deleted it?

No. Once you've deleted an email you cannot restore it. We therefore recommend to store emails in the Trash or any of your created folders if you don't want to keep all emails in your Inbox folder but also don't want to delete them.

Can I still contact someone from my blocked profiles?

Yes. However, the blocked member will not be able to respond until you unblock him/her.

Rating




What is "Rating"?

Rate others and get your own photos rated! This feature is of course absolutely voluntary. You can always turn off rating for individual photos.

How can I get my photos rated? How can I change my being-rated-status?

Go to "Profile", "Photos", and click "Edit Photos" below the album that contains the photos in question. Your photos will be listed on this page. On the right of each picture you'll find your picture-settings including visible-status and ratable-status. To set/change your ratable-status, just go to "Photo is Rated:" and set your current status on "Yes" or "No". The being-rated status has to be set for every single picture and can be changed whenever you want.

What is "Tempting"?

Want to make the first step to contact someone but don't want to be too personal? Want to test a member's reaction? Want to give someone a hint or point out your own profile? Use the "Tempt" feature and drop a line.

How can I tempt someone?

To tempt a member go to the member's profile and click on "Tempt". Select a line from the Tempt list and hit "Tempt". The chosen one will instantly receive your little message including your short profile.

How do I know whether I was tempted?

If you have been tempted, the message will show up in your "Inbox" and your homepage will show "Unread Messages (#)". All tempts will be delivered to your "Inbox" with the subject line "You have been tempted!". Got the nerve and reply to the tempt directly per email by clicking on "Reply" or return the tempt by clicking on the member's profile and hit "Tempt"!

What is the "Instant Messenger"?

gotthenerve.com offers a messenger to chat with other members in real-time. The messenger allows you to send/receive instant messages to/from other members and chat with people that are using the messenger.

How to configure pop-up blockers to receive Instant Messages

Below are instructions to allow pop-ups from only gotthenerve.com for most common pop-up blockers. It is possible that you did not knowingly install or activate any pop-up blockers so run through the list of programs and perform the steps outlined for any you think might be running. It is common to have many pop-up blocking programs running simultaneously.


    Internet Explorer
    Microsoft's XP Service Pack 2 and Vista have directly integrated pop-up blocking into Internet Explorer (versions 6 and 7). By default pop-up blocking is enabled. To mark gotthenerve.com as an exception, follow these steps:
    1. Open an Internet Explorer window
    2. Click "Tools" on the menu
    3. Go to the option "Pop-up Blocker"
    4. On the foldout menu, click "Pop-up Blocker Settings..."
    5. In the box for "Address for Web Site to Allow" write "gotthenerve.com"
    6. Click the "Add" button


    Mozilla Firefox
    The Mozilla Firefox pop-up blocker is integrated into the Firefox browser. Depending on the version of Firefox you have, the steps may vary.
    1. Open a Firefox window
    2. Click "Tools" on the menu
    3. Click on "Options…"
    4. Depending on your version, click on the "Web Features" icon or "Content" icon
    5. Click the "Exceptions…" or "Allowed Sites" button across from the Block Popup Windows checkbox
    6. In the box for "Address of web site" write "gotthenerve.com"
    7. Click the "Allow" button


    Common Pop-up Blockers
    In general, most pop-up blockers will install themselves as a browser toolbar. Sometimes toolbars can be hidden from your view, but still block pop-ups.

    To see all of the toolbars available in Internet Explorer 6, click "View" followed by "Toolbars". Any toolbars that are unchecked will be hidden to users.

    To see all of the toolbars available in Internet Explorer 7, click "Tools" followed by "Toolbars".

    Click on and check each unchecked Toolbar in the Toolbars Menu to configure each ones pop-up blocking settings.


    Google Toolbar
    Ensure that the Google Toolbar says "Site pop-ups allowed" or "Popups okay". To accomplish this, click the button on the Google Toolbar that says "# blocked" (e.g. 132 blocked). The button will turn into "Site pop-ups allowed" or "Popups okay".


    Yahoo Toolbar
    In the middle of the toolbar is a little yellow box with a shield shape on it. This is the pop-up blocker menu.
    1. Click the Pop-Up Blocker menu icon.
    2. Select "Always Allow Pop-Ups From".
    3. Select gotthenerve.com from the "Sources of Recently Blocked Pop-Ups" list.
    4. Click "Allow".


    MSN Toolbar
    Click on the down arrow to the right of the button on the MSN Toolbar that says "Pop-ups Blocked (#)". A menu will appear where you can click "Allow Pop-ups from this Site".


    AOL Toolbar
    The AOL Toolbar will have a button that says "Blocked: #". To allow Pop-ups to appear, click this pop-up blocker button and it will now say "Allowed".


    AIM Toolbar
    Click on the button on the AOL Toolbar that says "Pop-ups Blocked: #". The button will now say Pop-ups Allowed.


    Internet Security Software
    Most anti-virus software companies now provide Internet Security Suites that may have a pop-up blocker such as Norton Internet Security, McAfee Security Suite, and ZoneAlarm.

    Icons for these programs are usually located in the lower right-hand corner of your screen, next to the clock. To open the program, double click the icon and navigate to the software settings. Refer to the software documentation to locate the pop-up blocker.

Where can I see who's currently online?

To see who's currently online and/or avilable to instant message go to "Search", "Quick Search". Select location, preferences, click "online now" and hit "search". Your search results will have a link "Instant Message" for any members currently online.

See whether your saved members are online

If you just want to know whether some of your friends whose profiles you've saved are online, click on "Contacts", "Saved Contacts", and an "Instant Message" link will be available by any member currently online.

What does the messenger look like? What personal information does it display?

The messenger contains your username, picture, age, gender, and location. One box shows the conversation going on between you and your chat partner, the other field is the memo field that you type your messages in. On top of the chat history box you can see your chat partner's username, age, gender, location, and on the right his or her photo (if available).

How can I start a conversation via messenger?

First find out who's currently using the messenger by using "Quick Search". You can start a conversation with members that are currently online. To start a conversation click on the "Instant Message" link on the member's profile. The messenger will automatically open in a separate window. Type in your message, hit send and have a good chat!

When can I be contacted via messenger?

You can be contacted via messenger anytime you are logged into the site. When someone sends you an Instant Message, a window will open with the conversation. Be sure that pop-up blockers are disabled for the site.

Can I block and therefore prevent members from sending me instant messages?

Yes. Like preventing members from emailing or tempting you, you can also prevent them from sending you instant messages. Simply add them to your "Blocked Contacts" list by clicking on "Block" on their profile.

Can I still contact someone from my blocked list?

Yes, but they won't be able to respond until you've unblocked them.

How can I leave the messenger and appear offline?

To leave the messenger just close the messenger window. To appear offline you have to sign out. The sign "Online Now" on your profile will disappear.
